Description:

Joseph Paul Vorst,
American (1897-1947)
Southern Mississippi, 1941,
oil on canvas,
signed lower left, framed.
30 1/4 x 25 1/4 inches

Exhibitions: Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., Seventeenth Biennial Exhibition of Contemporary American oil Paintings, 1941

    Condition:
  • This painting is on canvas that is backed by a wood panel. This appears to have been the artist's intention, as the exhibition label is affixed to the back of the panel. Under u.v. light there is only minor restoration visible along the right edge and in a small spot in the house to the right. The painting has been varnished with green varnish, so other possible restoration is difficult to see, but it looks to be in excellent condition. There is some vertical cracquelure, but the paint looks stable.
