Meissen, An Extraordinary Large and Rare Porcelain Figure of Marie Antoinette, 19th Century, 21.5" Tall
with large blue Meissen cross sword marks. Apparently, no incised mold number.
The magnificent and exceptionally modelled figure of the French Queen in a royal robe of rich blue, highlighted with gilt fleur de lis and ermine lining. The dress fashioned in the 18th century style with drapes of fabric, bows, and roses. The figure wearing a pompadour hair style with a flamboyant feather headdress.
The figure most likely modeled after the painting by Jean-Baptiste-Andre Gautier Dagoty of Marie Antoinette with a Globe,1775, Palace of Versailles
The figure weighs in excess of 39 pounds.
The figure is mounted to a bronze base.

  • Noting several cracks that originate near the base and extend to the back of the robe, some chipping in these areas. Chips to portion of the underside of the robe. Hairline cracks to the dress and robes in the font and sides (at least 8 such hairline cracks), minor losses to flowers on dress. Appears in good condition from waist up.
