Description:

Sam Stang
Minnesota / Missouri, (b. 1959)
Murrini Red Flat Bottle
Hand blown glass
Born in Northfield, Minnesota in 1959, Stang attended Washington University in St. Louis, and later studied under Fritz Dreisbach and renowned Venetian maestro Lino Tagliapietra. Stang was a founding partner in Ibex Glass Studio (1985–1991), and in 1992 established Augusta Glass Studio in Augusta, Missouri. Stang uses traditional European glassblowing techniques, in which pieces are created from hand-made glass rods, which are then cut, fused, and hand blown, without the use of adhesives, molds, or paints. He is known for his bold, vibrant, almost wild use of color and pattern, balanced by symmetry, precision, and a fundamental integrity of design. Stang has exhibited locally and nationally, and has served as visiting artist and instructor at a number of important studios, art schools, and universities in the US and abroad.

Elongated large stemmed bottle, reds and yellows. Signature incised to base. From a private collection, acquired from the artist.
