An American Federal Inlaid Mahogany Secretary Bookcase, ca 1800
Fine rich graining and color, having a projecting flat moulded cornice, above a veneered frieze, with satinwood banded borders framing string inlaid oval geometric panels over a pair of glazed doors with satinwood glazing bars within crossbanded mahogany borders; the lower section with a crossbanded and string inlaid border to the projecting top, and containing a fall front secretaire drawer, veneered as two parts, and opening to an interior fitted with small drawers over arched pigeon holes, centering a cupboard with arched panel string inlay to the door, all over three graduated long drawers with satinwood crossbanded borers and panel string inlay and supported upon splayed bracket feet, joined by a shaped scalloped apron, Circa 1800, Secondary wood: yellow pine.
