A good to very good used set, externally still clean and bright and internally with some very minor foxing, lower hinge of volume two starting. The Portuguese explorer Monteiro spent many years traveling the country between the Congo River and Mossamedes or Little Fish Bay, a region comprising ten degrees of latitude in tropical Africa (present-day Angola). He has written a complete description of his travels and explorations over many years there. He covers the land between the River Zaire and Mossamedes and includes the salient aspects of native life, manners, and customs. The illustrations are particularly beautiful.
