Dead Game in a Larder (Early Modern Kitchen Scene)

A painting of an early modern kitchen after a successful hunt and in preparation for an important meal. Items strung from the ceiling awaiting a cook for immediate preparation include male and female pheasants and another game bird; on the table we have a mallard duck and two others; and on the floor there is a red lobster, a tied-up turbot fish and another bird. Set among jars, bottles, a basket and a hanging lantern in a large cool dark pantry with a leaded-glass window. Similar to other painted larders by Benjamin Blake (1757-1830).
Signed and dated lower lower left, framed.
