Description:

Ex-Voto Painting of a Man Giving Thanks to Jesus
Oil on tin, 19th c. Mexican. Here we have a man kneeling in supplication and holding up a tall candle at the feet of Jesus who is on the Cross. His crucifix is flanked by two fancy white pots holding large red and pink blooming flowers. We see a bed next to the man with a sickly person resting on it--presumably this is what the man had been reduced to before he had asked Jesus to intervene on his behalf. The background of the images is painted in dark green. The lower third of the surface is dedicated to the written story behind how Jesus had healed him-which is partially legible.

  • Dimensions: ca. 16.5cm x 21.5cm
  • Condition: The image is fairly legible. However there is a lot of missing paint that has been worn off and rusted away. The top edge of the tin is missing some of its form, and the story in the bottom section of the piece has rusted away a bit too, making the written version of the tale only semi-decipherable.
