Gothic-Style Carved Triptych (Bone), Northern European, 19th Century or Earlier
This rounded medieval-style courtly religious scene carved in bone in three sections features 1) a scribe writing with a quill pen at his tall wooden medieval upright desk (with other manuscripts on bookshelves next to him), 2) a man exchanging a book with a seated ruler on a throne and two onlookers (including an obedient dog with a curly tail), and 3) two younger additional onlookers in medieval-style garb. The top of the carving features Gothic-style tracery, delicate spires and fretwork designs. Northern European, 19th c. or earlier.

Provenance: The Ken and Elizabeth Teasdale Family, St. Louis, MO

  • Condition: Good overall. Chip to bottom right corner. Small missing design element on top floral decorative area.
