A study of the events in Alton when the pro-slavery mob rioted, ransacked and arsoned the newspaper office of Elijah Lovejoy--murdering him in the process. Special association copy owned by George Davis, attorney at Law in Alton, Illinois, circa 1838. Davis, along with Abraham Lincoln, was an ally to the surviving Lovejoy brothers. Manuscript letter in his own hand, stamped and dated Alton, Illinois.
