Rare Circa 1841 American Wheel Barometer by George Leone, New York
Interior pencil inscription with date 1841. "The case is rosewood and pine. George Leoni worked at 112-114 John St., New York in the early 1840''s, advertising as "importe and Manufacturer of Mathematical and Philosophical Instruments, &c." Ref: George Leoni, Ample Instruments for the Barometer and Thermometer (New York, 1841). Also comparable example, Smithsonian National Museum of American History, accession number 1990.0112.

  • Condition: Contains mercury in front thermometer tube; mercury tube and pulley weights intact in back case of clock. Plaque behind glass states: 114 John Street, New York, warranted.
