Terrance Hayes is one of the most compelling voices in American poetry and the author of So to Speak (2023), American Sonnets for My Past and Future Assassin (2018), How to Be Drawn (2015), Lighthead (2010), Wind in a Box (2006), Hip Logic (2002), and Muscular Music (1999), To Float In The Space Between: A Life and Work in Conversation with the Life and Work of Etheridge Knight (2018) and, most recently, Watch Your Language (2023). Terrance has received numerous literary awards, including the Bobbitt National Prize for Poetry, the National Book Award, the Pushcart Prize, the National Poetry Series, the Whiting Writers Award, the Kate Tufts Discovery Award, and the Etheridge Knight Criticism Collection award from The Poetry Foundation. This auction lot includes signed editions of a selection of Terrance's award-winning books and his original painting of acclaimed poet Robert Hayden (16x16 wood panel); the first African American to be appointed as Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress and the author of eight collections of poetry. Hayden died in 1980.
