Poisson Pilote Chair, 1983

signed, dated, titled, and numbered underneath.

A fun, post-modern, primary colored, high glossed 1980s wooden chair called the "Poisson Pilote" or Pilot Fish--that's the little fish that swims alongside huge marine predators like sharks. Made in an edition of 250 by a French designer, Pierre Sala (1948-1989), who came to furniture design from the world of theater. This Poisson Pilote Chair is part of a larger body of his playful and colorful work that includes chairs named after a variety of animals; and Sala is also the designer who made those wonderful bookcases and tables out of gigantic looking pencils.

  • Dimensions: 35 1/2 x 16 1/2 x 16 1/4 inches
  • Medium: lacquered wood, ed. 46/250
